The Oasis banger beat Wonderwall and Chamoagne Supernova – which all came from the same (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? album released 30 years ago
Brits have voted Don’t Look Back in Anger their favourite Oasis song ahead of the band’s comeback tour.
Bookmakers Ladbrokes asked the public to rank the group’s hits.
Anger – which was penned by Noel Gallagher and released in 1996 – picked up almost a quarter of the votes.
It was the fifth single from their iconic second studio album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? and their second No1.
The single was the band’s first on which Noel sang lead vocals.
Another song from the same album Wonderwall was the public’s second favourite with 17.6% of the votes.
Released in 1995 it reached No2 in the UK charts.
Noel, who wrote that too, said it was about ‘an imaginary friend who’s gonna come and save you from yourself’.
A third classic from the same album – Champagne Supernova – rounded off the band’s top three.
Others featuring in the Oasis Top 10 were Half The World Away, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, and Live Forever.
But there was no room for Supersonic, Whatever, Rock ‘N’ Roll Star or Stand By Me.
Noel was the voted the best singer in the band by over 1,000 participants – ahead of brother Liam – by 53% to 47%.
But there were seven Liam tracks in the top 10.
Ladbrokes spokesman Alex Apati said: “The results are in and it’s a resounding win for Don’t Look Back in Anger when it comes to Oasis’ most popular track.
“We’d suggest anyone who disagrees with the survey should take heed from the song’s title.”
