Rapper and social media star Aitch refuses to stop working with popstars like Ed Sheeran because it’s the commercial songs that pay his bills but it doesn’t mean he’s any less of a rap titan.
Manchester rapper Aitch’s latest album 4 features a raft of special guests like Anne-Marie, but he’s refusing to stop mixing up his music as he has to make a living.
Aitch explained: “I do get the vibe that people want that raw s**t – but then also it’s not just the raw s**t that’s put me in that position today.
“It’s also funny like, feeling like you gotta cater for the fans but then also I need pay my f***ing mortgage.
“You gotta find that balance – if I walk through the airport tomorrow there will be a 10-year-old girl asking for a picture, there will be 16-year-old lads, there will be a 45-year-old woman, it’s all over the place and I like that.
“I am one, if not the only one in the UK, that can stretch that far. I have thousands of 10-year-old fans and thousands of 50-year-old fans.”
Aitch says fame has cost him a lot though, including long-time friends: “Losing friends because I spend so much time trying to get where I need to be, people’s lives change and all that. You don’t know how people feel about ya in real life, you start thinking ‘have I been too bothered about what these millions of randomers are saying about me and not the people that care about me.”
He insists fame, and making songs with Ed Sheeran, doesn’t mean he’s gone soft: “Even if I see one or two comments that might say ‘Aitch fell off’ or ‘Aitch went pop’, it does my f***ing head in. I’ll just be honest with ya, it does my head in. First of all, whether I am on a song with Giggs or a song with Anne-Marie I do nothing but rap anyway, I have bars on every song, listen!”
Wait until those critics hear what he likes to do in his spare time.
Aitch told the Great Company podcast: “I like getting pampered sometimes, I like getting a pot of eye masks, putting them in a fridge for hours, making my bathroom neat with all my creams and my smelly stuff and all that, then I get in from the gym and I do all that.
“That’s my guilty pleasure.”
He’s not soft – but his skin is!
