Two stars of Jeremy Clarkson’s Amazon Prime show Clarkson’s Farm were slammed by viewers as they said they ‘hated everything’ about the auntie-niece duo
Fans of Clarkson’s Farm were gobsmacked when the last two episodes of season four dropped on Amazon Prime, revealing some eyebrow-raising financial decisions.
Two of the show’s stars sparked a fiery debate on social media as fans accused them of egging Jeremy Clarkson on to “spend, spend, spend,” despite his constant worry over cash during the filming of the popular series.
Clarkson roped in pub consultants Sue and Rachel Hawkins to kickstart his new boozer, The Farmer’s Dog. The duo is famed for flipping failing pubs in the Cotswolds into thriving businesses. But eyebrows were raised sky-high when they advised Clarkson to fork out £40,000 on posh patio umbrellas, especially since he had only earmarked £25,000 to get the pub up and running.
Last year, Clarkson snapped up The Windmill near Burford, Oxfordshire, and brought in the dynamic auntie-niece team to spruce it up within a tight five-week deadline.
Sue confessed that the rapid revamp was “daunting” and “not ideal,” but they cracked on with the challenge.
The series showed some cringeworthy haggling over the refurb costs, and ultimately, the consultants bowed out just days before the grand opening, sparking a wave of disbelief among viewers.
According to the Express, one person blasted: “These two took all the money and, after just two days of operation, claimed the building was not suitable as a pub, quit, and left all the mess behind. You either point that out first and turn down the job, or take the money and make it work.”
Another chimed in: “These two ‘pub experts’ were horrendous. Anyone wanting to open a pub should give these two a wide berth. They gave all the problems but zero solutions.”
A third vented: “Never have I seen two people promise so much and deliver so little. I have a burning hatred of everything they are. They took on a job, they didn’t raise imperative issues beforehand, and just let people suffer and stress.”
In the dramatic season four finale, Clarkson was gobsmacked to find the barstools wouldn’t swivel and the carvery unit was in a right pickle. After a nightmare day of trading, Sue and Rachel had a meltdown.
Rachel kicked off with: “We are pubs, and we know how to run pubs. We’ve done pubs forever. This building is not well-suited for its intended purpose. There are too many issues for us to run a successful business from this site, with failing water, no toilets, no gas, leaking roofs, and struggling staff.”
Sue piped up, saying: “Everyone is exhausted. Even when we say, ‘Go for a break’, there’s no staffroom. They’re weeing in a porta-loo. It’s not lovely conditions. They love you and they love working here because of that, and they’re excited about the British food, and everything this pub is, they wanna get behind it… But they’re working 14-hour days.”
Clarkson, with his head cradled in his hands, eventually cut in: “I have no problem with the staff, not one single problem with the staff,” he said. “They’re all brilliant. They’re smiley and they’re nice.”
