Deal Or No Deal mystery solved as banker finally unmasked as Corrie star

The mystery surrounding the identity of the banker on Channel 4’s Deal or No Deal has been revealed as a Coronation Street star and fans of both shows were left shocked

Deal Or No Deal’s banker has been identified as a Coronation Street actor.

The enigmatic banker’s identity was kept under wraps for years, but now Coronation Street star Glenn Hugill has been named as the mystery man.

Best recognised for his portrayal of Alan McKenna in Coronation Street from 1996 to 1997, the actor graced 86 episodes of the soap opera as the detective Alan courted Fiona Middleton and was set to wed her.

Their nuptials were abruptly cancelled when Jim McDonald confessed to an affair with Fiona, leading to Alan’s swift exit from the cobbles. Glenn also featured in other TV series such as Dalziel and Pascoe, The Upper Hand, and Chandler and Co.

In 2001, he transitioned into a presenter role for the series The Mole. In early 2023 Glenn sold his production company, Possessed, to ITV and assumed the position of C. Co. at Wheelhouse, the media conglomerate established by American talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

Prior to this, he served as the managing director of the company, which rapidly rose to become one of the UK’s most successful production houses, reports the Mirror.

At the age of 10, Glenn achieved a score of 207 in a national IQ test designed for under 16s, marking the highest recorded result in the country. As reported by local newspaper The Northern Echo, he later took an adult IQ test and scored a staggering 177, which is the maximum score attainable on the test.

Glenn is reported to have served as the banker on Deal or No Deal for a decade, but it remains unclear who took over his role in the new ITV version hosted by Stephen Mulhern.

Stephen previously admitted: “I don’t know who the Banker is. So I wouldn’t be able to recognise who it was. So, he could walk past me at any point.”

The voice on the phone is “male”, but Stephen further revealed: “Supposedly, he goes into the hotel and listens to the contestants and what they’re up to. So when he comes on the phone to me, I’ve got to repeat what he says.”
