TV presenter Eamonn Holmes has shared a health update with fans just days after he was ‘hospitalised’ following another fall at his home, which he revealed left him in ‘agony’
Eamonn Holmes shared a poignant health update just days after a shocking on-air mishap where he fell off his chair during a live GB News broadcast.
The 65-year-old presenter has been dealing with health woes, including a recent hospital visit earlier this month following a tumble at home that required an ambulance.
Taking to social media, Eamonn posted a photo of himself from three years ago, looking fit and healthy, which he admitted now fills him with sadness. He poignantly reflected: “I could walk then.”
Despite his struggles, Eamonn remains determined to “redouble my efforts.”
The presenter has been working tirelessly on his rehabilitation since undergoing spinal surgery in 2022 to address chronic back pain caused by three slipped discs. Over the past year, he has been seen relying on a walking aid and wheelchair due to his declining mobility.
Concerns for Eamonn’s well-being were reignited last week when he took a startling tumble from his seat during the GB News Breakfast show. While co-hosting with Ellie Costello, a loud crash was heard off-camera during an interview with commentator Charlie Rowley, reports the Mirror.
Costello’s worried voice could be heard saying “oh my gosh” from off-screen, before Eamonn urged Rowley to “carry on” After a brief pause, Eamonn returned on-air, reassuring viewers: “Welcome back. Good to see you again. Especially good for me to see you again. I am still alive, yes.
“And they’re very wonky wheels on chairs that we’ve got here, and matter of fact, we don’t really like the chairs full stop, do we? They’re a bit slippy and slidey and I’ve slipped and slid off mine there. “Not the first guest to have done so, we’ve had a few, they have to remain nameless because they’re well known people, but they’ve hit the floor really badly, quite frightening. “And it was a bit of a shock for me because I’ve had a fall in my bathroom two weeks ago, which hospitalised me, and that hit me again right in the back. (I’m) really, really sore. Really sore.”
He went on to explain how the chair “gave way” leaving him flat on his back. He further remarked: “As the morning goes on, you feel aches and pains. The worst thing about this, of course, this was at a time when I was hospitalised two weeks ago for a very similar fall in the same area, back of the head, my neck, my shoulders. So it all came back, as it were.”
In a heartwarming message on X, previously known as Twitter, Rowley penned: “@EamonnHolmes YOU are the real hero for carrying on this morning. A true professional and National Treasure who I learn from each and every week. It’s a privilege working with you, @elliecostelloTV and the rest of the @GBNEWS family. Take care!”.
Eamonn took to Instagram on May 2, posting a snapshot taken from an ambulance, to express his gratitude to those who aided him following a tumble on his bathroom floor. In his post, Holmes mentioned his good fortune of having his phone nearby, enabling him to ring up an ambulance.
The erstwhile This Morning presenter has long grappled with health woes since jarring discs in his back which, as he has said before, pressed on his sciatic nerve and affected the movement of his right leg. He’s openly discussed undergoing spinal surgery, getting a double hip replacement, and the challenges he faces with mobility, including using a mobility scooter.
Just last year, Holmes and his wife Ruth Langsford called time on their marriage, having tied the knot in 2010.
Eamonn opened up in 2022 about how his health tribulations have taken a toll on his relationship with his then-wife, Loose Women star Ruth Langsford.
“Even my own family are bored of my moaning,” he revealed. “It has caused some strain and Ruth is fed up of hearing about it and of me saying I can’t walk the dog or tidy up, but I can’t help it. It’s agony.”
Post-split from Ruth, Eamonn has found love again and is currently dating marriage counsellor Katie Alexander, 43. The new couple made their social media debut earlier this month.
Katie shared adorable selfies cuddled up with a wheelchair-bound Holmes and her pooch Dottie in a video clip she captioned: “Lovely weather… lovely company.”
