EXCLUSIVE: Peter Andre, the star of Fred Nwaka’s new film Jafaican, has spoken exclusively to Daily Star about his role as Gary Buckle and the one thing he found “hard” to grasp
Peter Andre has admitted that he faced “challenges” while filming Jafaican.
The Mysterious Girl singer recently starred in the Fred Nwaka film as Gary Buckle, a wheeler dealer type who goes undercover pretending to be Jamaican gangster Denton ‘Kill Man’ Powell to nab some cash and pay for his gran’s care home fees.
Andre spoke exclusively to Daily Star about how he prepared for the role and admitted that at times he found the role “hard” – but he “absolutely loved” the process.
Peter told us: “Preparing to play Gary Buckle was hard in ways, I really understood the character of Gary.”
“I think that with the Jamaican side of it, the Patois parts were dubbed over by a Jamaican actor but instead of me miming over the Patois, I had to learn all the [words] that were delivered on screen.”
“They dubbed over me, so that was a real challenge but it was one that I absolutely loved doing.”
Throughout the film, Peter plays both Gary and Denton ‘Kill Man’ Powell and admitted he “loved” changing between the two: “I have to say, I loved playing Gary because I really felt the character and playing the fake Gary, the fake Denton, was very interesting.”
“Of course, unless you’ve seen the film you wouldn’t understand but all the way through the film he’s saying: ‘I can’t do this, this isn’t going to work.”
“Playing Denton I found really a great challenge, I absolutely loved that character. I loved the seriousness of him, the tone changes and it was a brilliant part to play.”
