Apple TV fans have been patiently waiting for the return of Severance and were recently treated to a surprise cameo appearance from Keanu Reeves – but you’ll never guess where
Believe it or not, Keanu Reeves is in Severance.
The Matrix star made an unexpected hidden cameo in Severance season two which has left fans reeling. The 60-year-old actor starred as the voice of the Lumon building in the animated Lumon Is Listening video shown to the Innies on their first day back.
The Macrodata Refinement Department – Mark, Helly, Irving and Dylan – were all shown the induction video after making it back down to the Severed Floor after the Overtime Contingency Protocol took place.
Severance’s director Dan Erickson has also confirmed that Keanu was used as the voice of the Lumon building: “We always wanted it to be someone [with] a very warm presence.”
“All I can say is that we talked about a couple of different people for that role,” Erickson said. “We always wanted it to be somebody that people have certain associations with, but also, it had to be a very warm presence. The Lumon building is very friendly in the context of this video, and there’s a friendliness to that particular voice and a heart to that particular voice.”
After discovering the Easter egg, fans took to X/Twitter to share their amazement. One person said: “I had no idea about this but Keanu Reeves being in Severance makes it even better.”
Others said they “knew it” while one person wrote: “Great choice! I was trying to place the voice while watching this but couldn’t do so successfully.”
“No f****** way!!! I didn’t even catch that,” exclaimed one excited viewer as another chimed in: “I thought to myself when watching: “Why’d they make it sound like Keanu Reeves?” Never even considered it actually was him.”
Someone said that they are “so glad it has been confirmed,” another complimented him for having “a good voice for the job” and one person even branded him “perfect” for the role.
“He has the most comforting voice around. Great choice,” gushed one Reeves fan. “Did no one else but me clock that IMMEDIATELY?! His voice is instantly recognisable,” boasted another viewer.
