Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 70th annual David Di Donatello Awards in Italy, Rome and appeared to be “awkward” as per a body language expert
Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet’s red carpet debut has been deemed “awkward” by a body language expert.
Although the couple has previously attended several events together through awards season, where Chalamet was nominated for his role in the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown”, they had yet to walk a red carpet side by side.
Kylie, 27, and Timothée, 29, made their red carpet debut at the 70th annual David Di Donatello Awards at Cinecitta Studios in Rome, Italy on Wednesday, May 7. The Italian film ceremony, often likened to the Oscars, marked a big milestone in their typically private relationship.
Timothée rocked an all-black ensemble featuring a velvet double-breasted blazer with matching velvet trousers, a black button-down shirt worn open over a tee, and Oxford shoes. He added a subtle splash of colour to his get-up with a pale pink flower tucked into his suit pocket.
Meanwhile, Kylie matched her beau in a figure-hugging black dress adorned with embroidered black details, a daringly low neckline and thin straps. The Kylie Cosmetics mogul finished off her look with chunky asymmetrical gold earrings and a black and gold clutch.
The pair, who have been romantically linked since April 2023, displayed affectionate moments as they held hands, with Timothée placing his hand near Kylie’s midsection while posing and smiling for the cameras.
However, body language expert Judi James told the Mirror US that they appeared “awkward” and were trying to “create a romantic vibe” on the red carpet.
Judi noted that Timothée seemed stiff, adopting a polished look for the cameras, but lacking in expression and pose variation.
She said: “Timothée looks like a shop window mannequin here, adopting a newly-elegant look for the red carpet. His projected communication appears to be mainly with the cameras and there’s little in the way of variation of expression or pose.”
Kylie, on the other hand, appeared self-conscious and awkward, trying to create a romantic atmosphere to match their outfits. Judi added: “Kylie’s body language looks a little self-conscious and awkward as though she’s trying to work around him and create a romantic vibe to match the romantic-looking outfits.”
Despite some intimate gestures, such as hand-holding and Timothée placing his arm around Kylie, the expert concluded that the couple’s body language suggested it was “clearly his night,” with Kylie attempting to add some romance in a subtle way.
Judi said: “His body language poses suggest it’s clearly his night, but Kylie looks busy to add some romance, albeit in a less demanding way than usual.”
The evening belonged to Timothée as he was bestowed with the prestigious David Di Donatello Award, an honorary David for Cinematic Excellence, in recognition of his remarkable performances on the big screen.
Italian cinema Academy President Piera Detassis expressed her sentiments about the award in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on May 2, stating: “The Academy is delighted to award [Timothée] the David for Cinematic Excellence, which is meant to be an acknowledgement of the great actor of quality and innovative films, and, at the same time, of the global protagonist.”
