Liam Gallagher got straight in car after Oasis gig as Noel didn’t look at him – critic

Oasis made their grand return to the stage for the first time in 16 years, but while fans were living it up – it appears old habits die hard – with no interaction between the duo

Liam and Noel Gallagher “barely interacted with each other” during their comeback gig last night.

Oasis got back on stage for the first time as a duo since 2009, with sixteen years of waiting by fans finally being brought to an end. The Mancunian brothers were full of charisma as they delivered striking renditions of their biggest hits, including “Wonderwall” and “Champagne Supernova”.

With the first gig out of the way, Noel and Liam are set to rock the Principality Stadium in Cardiff several more times as part of their 41-gig world tour. But according to one critic, old habits are dying hard, with very little interaction between the two brothers.

On Saturday morning (July 5), many fans and concertgoers were giving their reaction to the stadium gig from the night before. Speaking on BBC Radio 4, Telegraph music critic Neil McCormack gave his take on the major reunion.

“It was as incredible as people are saying,” Neil explained. “There was just something about the way that Oasis fits into this country – the last great band that had songs that everyone wanted to sing, but they just disappeared.”

He added: “The audience was just waiting for them and the second they hit the stage, the noise that erupted in the stadium. The band was incredibly loud, it was an incredibly loud concert; but the audience was matching them and roaring all the way through.”

However, while Neil was thrilled to see the band make a return to the stage, he insisted that neither Noel nor Liam spoke to each other at all during the set. With all the songs being played one after the other, Neil joked that the pair were doing what they could to almost avoid each other.

After being asked how the brothers seemed on stage in terms for their personal relationship, Neil shot back: “Well, there was no interaction between Liam and Noel on stage, not that there ever was a lot.

“I don’t think Noel looked at Liam once during the set, he looked at the guitar and the audience,” he added. Things then appeared to only get more awkward for the pair when the end of the show came – and the pair took vastly different ways of leaving the stadium.

Neil explained: “I did notice there was a Range Rover pulled up to the side of the stage; you could just see it from where we were. And then Liam walked straight from the stage and into the Land Rover and was driven away.

“Noel walked off the stage and talked to a few fans who were lingering a little bit later,” he added. “So, I think there’s obviously an effort to keep that fractious spirit at bay and not have fights disrupt this money-making exercise”.

Both Liam and Noel’s performances were also praised during the set, as Neil explained that they both have enough charisma to keep fans entertained. The band also touched on the drama surrounding the pricing of the tickets, with the duo exclaiming that the price was worth it in the end.
