‘Low-key’ British sitcom couple secretly get married in real life in ‘TV love story’

Sitcom couple Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner are reported to have secretly tied the knot in real life.

The duo are best-known for playing harassed parents Pete and Sue Brockman in BBC comedy Outnumbered. It was claimed yesterday that the pair tied the knot in the parish of Westminster in the summer of June 2022. They started dating after wrapping up the series in 2017 and share a a £1.5million London townhouse together. Hugh was seen sporting a wedding band on his left ring finger during an appearance last month on the Lorraine show on ITV.

Meanwhile Claire flashed her engagement and wedding band during a promo for December’s popular Outnumbered Christmas special, with her co-stars Daniel Roche, Tyger Drew-Honey, Ramona Marquez and Hugh.

A source said: “This is a real TV love story. They delighted fans when they fell in love outside of the show, having managed to keep it quiet.

“They are a low-key couple who wanted to keep this special for them. Only their family and close friends have known.”

The sitcom originally ran for five series between 2007 and 2014 before its first Christmas special in 2016. It returned with a Christmas special on Boxing Day 2024, in which Pete revealed he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

The episode saw see Sue Brockman (Skinner) and Pete Brockman (Dennis) welcome their family into their house for Christmas.

Speaking at the time, Hugh admitted the cancer storyline was one close to his heart, saying: “Pretty much every family has been touched by cancer in some way… my dad had cancer at 66. So I’m pleased to have done this storyline.”
