Oasis Cardiff round-up as Liam and Noel Gallagher smash first reunion tour gig

Oasis delivered a Supersonic celebration of their legacy during their first comeback gig.

After 16 years apart, brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher had lost none of their sneering cool and arrogant indifference.

No Maybes, the swagger was Definitely back from the moment Liam sauntered on stage, hands behind his back, and leant up to the microphone for a monumental Hello.

“You beautiful people, it’s been too long,” hollered Liam. Cue the beer rain-showers as Morning Glory cranked into gear, the front 20 rows a blurred wave of bouncing bucket hats and ill-fitting Adidas shirts.

“See you’re still on the glue,” quipped Liam pointing to a bunch of fans going nuts.

Anyone hoping for that big emotional embrace (or major brawl) between the warring Gallaghers will be disappointed to learn they were on their best behaviours, rarely acknowledging one another bar an unlikely smirk.

Hearing them combine to holler brotherhood banger Acquiesce provided a warm fuzzy feeling, as much as two blokes standing in anorak and denim shirt can. To be fair, their dual presence was enough to get the nostalgic juices flowing and the old dynamic definitely still works – Liam’s visceral force the perfect foil for Noel’s introspective songs of hope.

Celebs like Vernon Kaye and Johnny Vaughn were spotted in Cardiff while every pub and bar along St Mary’s Street in the Welsh capital was filled with people, all decked out in Oasis merchandise. Even support acts Cast and Richard Ashcroft admitted their excitement at being part of the historic night.

30 years ago Oasis had to convince a reluctant scene that they were the greatest band ever, and now the world will believe it all over again.
