Sabrina Carpenter has really blown up in the last year or so.

She first gained widespread attention for her acting on the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World (2014–2017), in which she played the role of Maya Hart, the best friend of Riley Matthews, the show’s main character. The series was a sequel to the popular 1990s sitcom Boy Meets World. Her performance on the show earned her a significant following, particularly among younger audiences.

Then, Sabrina began releasing music in 2014 with her debut single “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying” and followed it up with a series of successful albums, including Eyes Wide Open (2015), Evolution (2016), Singular: Act I (2018), Singular: Act II (2019), and Emails I Can’t Send (2022).

However, many of us know that her huge break came last year. She released sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet on April 11 – and fans couldn’t get enough of it. One of her most successful songs is Espresso – which topped the charts in the UK and peaked at No.3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

You’d think Sabrina would love everything about the tune that made her one of the most-talked about recording artists of the year. But in a recent video, she revealed one detail that she regrets about writing Espresso.

In a viral social media clip, Sabrina opens up about the difficulties of singing ‘Espresso’ while dancing and sticking to her choreography. She said: “Espresso is a little harder for me again because of the short breath control and just how precise some of the notes. And when I was in the studio, I was like ‘this is fun’ like ‘love this song’ and then once I got on stage, I was like ‘this is kind of hard’ like ‘why did I write this song?'”

The clip has garnered more than 66,000 likes on Instagram – where many took to the comments section to leave their thoughts. One said: “I remember hearing it the first time (seconds after the music video dropped on YouTube) and thinking ‘this is gonna be hard to sing live'”.

Another said: “Same with Britney Spears’ Womanizer.” A third chimed in with: “This is the realist thing ever.” and a fourth added: “I found this out at karaoke.”
