South Park is returning to screens in July, with the show taking aim at a variety of subjects – including Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is seen jet-packing through space with the kids
Get ready for a wild ride as South Park is making a grand return to our screens this July, after more than two years since the last season aired.
The brainchild of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, developed by Brian Graden for Comedy Central, is gearing up for its 27th season. The show is set to skewer a variety of topics, with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in its crosshairs among other subjects.
This week’s trailer drop has fans buzzing, with a voiceover announcing “times have changed” while the beloved characters gear up to face off against issues like a war with Canada, France’s bid to reclaim the Statue of Liberty, a spate of plane crashes, and grimy toilet bowls.
In the teaser, we catch a glimpse of the disgraced music tycoon Diddy jet-packing through the cosmos with the kids, and Butters freaking out in an air traffic control tower amidst a series of aerial collisions, yelling, “Oh c–p, we’re all gonna get fired.
The upcoming season doesn’t shy away from edgy references, including a nod to Elon Musk with mentions of ketamine, which he’s admitted to using for depression treatment. In the sneak peek, Randy Marsh quizzes his daughter, “Shelly have you been taking ketamine? Because I think it could really help you,” reports the Mirror US.
He then tells his wife Sharon: “I’m just going to do some ketamine and f— around with the government a little.”
The series also pokes fun at the strained relationships between the US and its allies, depicting Canadian forces gearing up for battle while French vessels play tug-of-war with the Statue of Liberty. The 26th season of South Park aired from February 8, 2023, to March 29, 2023.
Notably, the show took a break during the 2024 presidential election, as the creators had previously expressed their disinterest in continuing to mock Donald Trump on the show.
Matt explained: “We’ve tried to do South Park through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing to – it’s such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance.”
Trey chimed in: “Obviously, it’s f—–g important, but it kind of takes over everything and we just have less fun. I don’t know what more we could possibly say about Trump.”
In a separate episode, the show took a trip down memory lane, revisiting the absurdity of one of P Diddy’s parties, as seen in the classic episode Hell On Earth 2006, which first aired nearly two decades ago. The scene shows Satan himself attempting to throw an unforgettable Super Sweet 16 bash, only to have his thunder stolen by none other than Diddy.
A frustrated Satan exclaims: “It’s Halloween, this is my night. Then at midnight for dessert, I’m thinking over here we bring out a huge chocolate fondue fountain!” But his devilish plans hit a snag when a party planner drops the bombshell that Diddy “had his birthday party here a couple years back” and “had one of those.”
Clearly peeved, Satan fires back: “Oh, screw that then. I don’t want a fondue fountain if P Diddy had one.”
