Vanessa Feltz’s new talk show flops as complaints pour in from unhappy viewers

Vanessa Feltz has launched her new show on Channel 5, but it appears the viewing audience were less than impressed, with many tuning out – or complaining about the gaudy set

Vanessa Feltz’s new Channel 5 talk show has flopped after ratings dropped during its launch.

Beloved TV host Vanessa, 63, left This Morning after 33 years in the job – to present her own talk show on Channel 5. It comes as her love life continues to be at the centre of attention after her ex-lover Ben Ofoedu revealed he was with a new lady – with Vanessa branding him a man of “no class”.

Taking to the airways on Monday morning (March 24), Vanessa officially debuted to the public on a primetime midday slot. However, it struggled to pull in viewers as just 83,000 tuned in for the first episode.

By comparison, Storm Huntley – which had immediately preceded Vanessa’s show brought in 154,000 viewers. Similarly, Aussie fave Home and Away attracted 157,000 – with Loose Women – airing on ITV1 during Vanessa’s slot, bringing in a comparatively huge 686,000 viewers.

During the course of the show, several viewers commented on the brightness of the pink set, leading to many switching off from the show. The set was filled with flowers, cakes, cushions and curtains – but people claimed the set looked ‘dated’.

As viewers watched on, many took to social media to vent their frustrations, with one asking: “Did the sofas come from Barbara Cartland’s old place?” referring to the late authoress. A second joked: “This looks like Barbie met Babestation.”

Similarly, a third user penned: “Has Mr Blobby furnished the set?” And a fourth admitted they were astonished that “the programme came back after the first ad-break.”

Vanessa had dominated the airwaves during the 1990s and into the 2000s, when she hosted her own chat show. Hoping to recreate the same ratings, former Celebrity Big Brother icon Vanessa revealed she would be bringing her show back to the newly renamed 5.

The show had a host of celebrity guests including former Corrie star Helen Flanagan. As well as this, Vanessa allowed fans to call in to help start discussions on certain topics, hoping to generate interaction between the guests and the viewers at home.

Within minutes, several negative comments were pouring in for Vanessa, who was not afraid to read them out live on air. In one incident, she read: “‘I would rather someone scooped my eyes out with a spoon, says James.

“Well, it turns out we actually have a spoon here which I’m going to send to you and you can personally scoop out your eyes with it, James,” she hit back. “We’re going to post it to you right now.”

Vanessa recently opened up about her recent dating history and admitted that she had dated a man for five months, before the pair went their separate ways. She told Entertainment Daily that she felt lonely, adding: “I’m not happy being single, I don’t like it.”

It comes as her former flame Ben Ofoedu confirmed that he was getting married with a new woman, and made a subtle dig at his former lover. In a post uploaded to his account, he wrote: “The reason I post so heavily about my love is I really didn’t believe it could happen for me.

“Somebody tried to paint a bad picture of me; staying quiet has led to many not understanding there are reasons rightly or wrongly for what we do. Men, there’s someone out there for you who will want to take your surname proudly.”
