Dark truth behind Michael Jackson's 'high pitch' as pals discuss his real voice

Michael Jackson’s high-pitched voice is one of the most memorable things about the late King of Pop.

Along with his chart-topping, ever-popular music, the accompanying videos and his love of plastic surgery, MJ was known for his trademark speaking voice.

However, over the years there have been conflicting reports from those closest to him about his voice – with some saying it was put on and others saying it was real, but not natural.

Doctor Conrad Murray, who was convicted of the involuntary manslaughter of Michael, claimed in his book that the pop star had been given hormone injections as a teenager.

He wrote in This Is It! The Secret Lives of Dr Conrad Murray and Michael Jackson: “I often saw Jackson at his most exposed and confessional. He only agreed to share after making me swear, ‘You will never breathe a word. Never.’

“I agreed. I was shocked when Jackson told me. It would explain all of Michael’s unusual behaviour as well as his morphological changes.”

But a number of people, including close friends Liza Minnelli and David Gest spoke against those claims.

In 2002, the late David Gest told talk show host Larry King: “I think people don’t know the real him. He doesn’t talk like [that].”

Liza had been tricked by Michael, as she believed the high-pitched voice was real, but heard what he actually sounded like when she listened in to a phone call between him and David, her husband at the time.

She said: “I said, ‘Michael, you’re busted. I got you now. All these years you’ve been talking that voice.'”

They speculated that Michael used the fake voice to protect his inner self after being “hurt too much”.

According to a few reports, Michael’s real voice was much deeper.

Back in 2005, Court TV’s Diane Dimond told Access Hollywood: “Somewhere in there, especially if you bring him bad news or if you make him mad, his voice gets very, very deep.

“I was there one day when someone asked him about Gloria Allred, the attorney that has sort of dogged him and turned around in one foul swoop and said, ‘She can go to hell,’ in this big, deep, masculine voice.”

And Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan seemed to confirm that was the truth too.

He said: “The weirdest thing about Michael Jackson, which encouraged my suspicions about him as a human being, was that when he talked about charity and children he had this very soft, high-pitched voice.

“When I changed the subject to business his voice dropped several octaves and he became a completely different person to talk to.

“That was weird to me, that showed me that he was a different multi-faceted different character depending on the subject matter.”
