Good Morning Britain bosses were left scrambling to fix technical woes today after Winston Churchill’s grandson Sir Nicholas Soames was cut out during Thursday’s show.
The Conservative MP has been billed to appear on the hit ITV programme alongside Lord Richard Dannatt to talk about VE Day.
However, things didn’t quite go to plan for hosts Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid.
When GMB host Ben tried to connect to Sir Nicholas it soon became apparent the line had cut out.
Looking concerned Ben tried to speak to Sir Nicholas one more time before admitting defeat.
“I think we’ve lost the line to Sir Nicolas” he explained while keeping calm and pushing ahead with the segment.
Explaining they would work to bring him back on the show, Ben went on to chat to Lord Dannatt who explained about the importance of VE Day 2020.
Luckily, GMB bosses managed to salvaged the internet and get Sir Nicholas back onto the show after just a few minutes.
Speaking frankly about the ongoing pandemic, the MP said: “The celebrations [VE Day] were tinged with sadness as there were tens of thousands of millions who didn’t come home to their own countries.
“VE Day was a great moment of excitement and passion but it was also a moment to remember, I think it is important that we keep that at the front of our minds.”
When asked how the war compared to the current Covid-19 lockdown, Sir Nicholas continued: “I think it is a very different time of real serious had times but it is true that what Covid has produced is a feeling of unity and pulling together.
“I think it is a vey British characteristic. The whole country is very aware we have to pull together to get this thing done.
“The country has come together to deal with this very terrible problem.”
Praising Boris Johnson, he added: “I think the Prime Minister and his government have done very well and I think it is interesting that the public look to their leadership at times like this.
“The fact that Boris has very nearly been over the edge will have given him an added empathy.
“Of course things could have got better, there always would have been.”
On Sunday, the PM is expected to start the long road to relaxing lockdown rules in a televised statement.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
