Singer-songerwriter Melissa Etheridge's son Becket Cypher dies aged 21

Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge has announced the death of her 21-year-old son.

Melissa shared Beckett with ex-partner, Julie Cypher.

Taking to Twitter, a member of Melissa’s team shared the heartbreaking news with her 114,600 followers.

A spokesperson said: “We’re sad to inform you that Melissa’s son Beckett passed away and there will not be a Concerts From Home show today. – #TeamME.”

No cause of death has been announced.

Melissa has been holding daily singalong sessions on her Facebook page since the global lockdown started in March.

A spokesperson for Etheridge told the New York Post” “We can, unfortunately, confirm the news is true.”

Since the news broke, fans of the songstress instantly took to social media to share their condolences.

One Twitter user wrote: “Oh no. So sad. My condolences to Melissa and her family.”

While a second added: “Our deepest condolences and prayers for @metheridge, Julie and Beckett’s soul, family and friends.”

A third commented: “I’m heartbroken to read about the death of Julie Cypher & Melissa Etheridge’s son Beckett at 21.”

“Beckett Cypher, RIP,” penned a fourth.

Beckett was one of two children from Julie and Melissa, who had used musician David Crosby as a sperm donor in order to conceive.

They also shared daughter Bailey Jean, who was also fathered by David Crosby.

Despite splitting gin 2000, Julie and Melissa went on to live in back-to-back houses so they could focus on co-parenting their two children.
