Good Morning Britain star Ben Shephard has divided fans today after dedicating as much of Friday’s show to Liverpool FC winning the Premier League as possible.
The sports loving presenter couldn’t hide his joy during the early morning show as he chatted away to Charlotte Hawkins.
As well as Liverpool winning the league being the top story on the show, Ben was also keen to ask non footballing guests about the achievement.
During a segment about the sacking of Labour MP Rebecca Long-Bailey after she retweeted a antisemitic article on Twitter, Ben asked former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith about the footy win.
Looking shocked, Charlotte Hawkins’ turned to Ben before playfully teasing: “Are you going to shoe horn football into every interview?”
Beaming, Ben replied: “Yes, we have waited for a long time for this.”
Laughing Charlotte added: “The top story is football and it will continue.”
However, while those in the studio were happy to talk about football, some viewers took to Twitter to moan they wanted ‘proper news’ back on the show.
One fan wrote: “Please get on with the news, it’s so long talking about football #GMB.”
Another added: “Incase you were not aware there is a global pandemic happening.
“Can we actually have some proper news please @CharlotteHawkns @benshephard.”
A third continued: #GMB Switched on because no Morgan and Reid… Ben Shephard just loves talking football, no news,”
A fourth hit out: “Move on #GMB.”
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays 6am on ITV
