David Tennant has undergone a major transformation, as he prepares to take centre-stage on ITV ‘s new true-crime drama DES.
The former Doctor Who star, looked totally different, sporting a long bowl hair-cut, oversized clothing and round glasses for his new role as one of Britain’s most prolific serial killers.
He will be stepping into the shoes of former civil servant Dennis Nilsen, who went on a murdering spree during the eighties.
Nilsen, who was widely known as the “kindly killer,” would target society’s most vulnerable – killing young men and boys, whom he met on the streets of London from 1978-1983.
He would use kindness to befriend men, such as offering them a room for the night at his North London flat, along with a hot meal, before taking their lives.

When he was arrested by police in 1983, he confessed to murdering 15 men, making him Britain’s most prolific serial killer at the time.
Police conducted one of the biggest manhunts of all time, following Nilsen’s confession, as the evil killer couldn’t recall the names of his victims, with most of them untraceable due to their life situations.
This saw cops launch a search – not for the culprit, but for the murdered instead.
The ITV drama, which is written by Luke Neal, will be told from three different perspectives – a detective, a biographer, and Nilsen himself.

Taking direction from Lewis Arnold (episodes 1 and 2) and Kelly Jones (episode 3), the production team will aim to give viewers a glance into the mind of one of the most emotionally elusive serial killers the world has ever seen.
David, who will play Nilsen and is better known for his starring roles in Broadchurch and Casanova, will also provide directional input alongside executive producers.
Nilsen died on May 12 2018 at HMP Full Sutton, where he was doing life imprisonment for the murders.
