Susanna Reid 'to be solo star of Good Morning Britain' after Piers Morgan's exit

Susanna Reid is set to become the “solo star” of Good Morning Britain in the wake of Piers Morgan’s exit, according to reports.

The Sun reported that ITV bosses are desperate to make sure that they do not lose two hosts and want Susanna, 50, to take control of GMB and make it “The Susanna Show”.

However, they will not rule out a long-term, big-name successor to the 53-year-old presenter who sensationally quit the breakfast show last month.

A source told The Sun: “Piers’ sudden departure has, of course, put a rocket up everyone.

“But what ITV needs now, more than ever, are calm heads and someone to steady the ship.

“Susanna has proven herself a consummate broadcaster for the past ten years — and clearly has the star factor.

“She is smart, feisty and opinionated. She may have been Piers’ foil for the past five years, but she’s so much more than this — and now it’s very much a case of The Susanna Show.

“ITV have offered her their full backing, and she will have even more editorial say going forwards.”

The source also claims that weatherman Alex Beresford, whose live clash with Piers caused him to walk off set, is keen for the job.

The Daily Star has approached ITV for comment.

The insider added: “Alex hasn’t formally applied for Piers’ job, but has made it quietly known he’s more than happy, and able, to step up as a presenter if and when he’s needed.

Additionally, ‘competitions man’ Andi Peters is also reportedly set to gain a greater role in the show.

The source added: “Behind the scenes, Andi is very popular, and polls well with viewers despite, arguably, having the unenviable task of making competitions sound interesting.

“He will be given more opportunities to step up too.”

Piers shockingly quit GMB earlier this month after being embroiled in controversy for his comments on Meghan Markle’s claims in her Ophah interview.
