A Place in the Sun was a bit tense when presenter Ben Hillman appeared with married couple Alison and Lee – and struggled to find properties that appealed to their demands.
In Friday’s episode (June 4) he was in sunny Spain trying to find a property spacious enough for the couple plus their four dogs, and visits from their six children and three grandchildren.
They were looking at relocating to Albox in Almeria, despite having never travelled there before, and had a budget of £150,000.
Alison also specified they wanted a modern property as well as her own olive grove and a space to put an orange tree.
Ben managed to find a castle house situated in an idyllic rural location with fantastic, uninterrupted views of the valley and mountains.
As well as this, the castle came with an amazing swimming pool and a garden wrapped around it with a grassy lawn, flowering plants and well-established fruit trees.
There was a roof terrace among the turrets, with stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
Staggeringly, the three-bedroom castle was valued at just under £172,000 which put it close to the couple’s modest budget.
The couple seemed happy when they looked at the outside, with Alison exclaiming: “That’s madness! Thank you.”
Lee was then very chuffed with the wooden door that had its own hatch.
Unfortunately, the rest of the property didn’t fare as well, with the couple noted the spiral staircase in one of the turrets was a “bit steep”.
Lee told Ben: “It is so impressive, it is so much fun, but it’s a little bit smaller than what we’d like.”

Sounding shocked, Ben hit back: “No, it’s not is it?”
Alison chipped in: “Yes it is. It is just two-and-a-half bedrooms really.”
“You’re not to be able to tell your friends you live in a castle now! Oh gosh, where do we go from here? I think we have seen a bit of everything.”
Fortunately, Ben was lucky with the fifth and final property which the couple immediately put an offer in for.
After some negotiation, the three-bed villa in Urcal was theirs for £168,000.
