Kendall Jenner revealed that fame has made it harder for her to achieve her modelling career.
The 25-year-old who grew up in the public eye, opened up about her successful modelling career during the Keeping Up With The Kardashians reunion special.
Claiming that the fame herself and her family found through the reality show, actually hindered her and made it ‘harder’ for her to achieve the modelling career she now has.
The model who has walked for Victoria’s Secret, Chanel and Vera Wang claims that everything she has accomplished in her 12 year long modelling career has been the result of her own hard work.
“In the topic of offensiveness to some of the things people assume about our family, I think everyone around me, whether friends or family, knows how hard I worked and still work,” the 25-year-old said.
“I did everything that I was supposed to do and had to do to get to the position I’m at now as a model. I went to every single casting, ran all over not only New York City but all over Europe trying to get a job and make my way.”
Kendall began modelling as a teenager, when Wilhelmina Models signed her in 2009 at the age of 13. Her first modelling job was for a campaign for clothing brand Forever 21 in 2009. And in 2010 the teen starred in a Teen Vogue shoot.
In the reunion special, the model touched upon her family’s platform and the privilege that come with the Kardashian-Jenner name.
Jenner made her way into the world of modelling two years after she first appeared on KUWTK, but she said that she “never took it for granted”.
She claims that the fame she encountered after being on the show may have made it harder for her to break into the modelling industry.
“Of course I had a platform, I never took that for granted.
“I always knew that was there, but that almost made my job a little bit harder only because people probably didn’t want to hire me because I was on a reality TV show.”
Fans flocked to social media to discuss the reunion show, with many in a state of confusion after hearing Kendall dismiss her privilege.
One fan took to Twitter to say: “Kendall saying that she went to every single casting and that coming from a family who has a reality show made things harder for her in the modeling industry is FALSE. No assumption, it’s a true damn fact. Kim and Kris are friends with designers, it made it easier for Kendall.”
While another said: “Kendall still going with the narrative that “she worked even harder than anyone to get into modelling because they didn’t wanna hire her because she was in a reality” why is it so hard for her to acknowledge her privilege?”
The final season of KUWTK aired earlier this year, after running for 14 years and 20 seasons.
The popular American reality TV series focuses on the personal and professional lives of the Kardashian and Jenner families.
With 268 episodes and five specials, the long-running reality show has been a popular TV staple among millennials and Gen-Zers.
Debuting on October 14 2007, the final season aired on March 18 2021.
