Romesh Ranganathan has been teasing what fans can expect when The Weakest Link returns later this month.
The comedian will be taking Anne Robinson’s place at the podium when the series launches on BBC One on Saturday, December 18.
It’s been almost 10 years since the show left our screens – and Romesh has revealed that he really wanted to shake things up.
At a Q&A for the press he joked he’d asked the production team to change The Weakest Link’s instantly recognisable theme tune for a ‘grime’ style track.
“So listen, the Weakest Link music is so iconic… those notes, it just plays in the memory,” he said.
“It’s a new version, but it’s the same music,” he reassured fans.
“If I turned to production and said a deal breaker would be that you’ve got to change the music they would get rid of me in a heartbeat.
“You can’t get rid of that,” concluded the star.
Romesh, 43, admits he was overawed by being on set.
The music and set combined to make the show an epic success, which he admitted was “so intense and full on” before the music finally kicks in.
Instead of members of the public, the new version will see celebrities take part.
Anne Robinson was famously dubbed The Queen of Mean when hosting the original Weakest Link, but Romesh’s style will be different.
As contestants will be appearing on the show to raise money for charity, he wants to be “malice free”.
He admitted it would be “a bit full on” to “absolutely put the boot in them” – but admitted he isn’t afraid to have a bit of a giggle at a competitor’s expense.
Romesh said he’d describe his presenting style as “affectionate mickey taking”, and says he will definitely make references to incorrect answers
But he wants them to be “in on the joke” too.
The Weakest Link returns to BBC One at 6.10pm on Saturday 18 December.
