Fired Apprentice Nick Showering says he is not 'a secret spy' as he addresses fan rumour

The Apprentice star Nick Showering is the latest contestant to be fired from the boardroom, following a high-octane racing themed task.

Lord Alan Sugar asked the team to create a racing themed employee away day at the iconic Silverstone race track, complete with a tour, interactive experience and catering.

While Harpreet Kaur led her team to pole position with their trackside tour and pit stop team building exercise, Stephanie Afflek’s team failed to make the podium after a catering mishap and short lived tour.

However, it was Nick Showering who ultimately met the end of Lord Sugar’s firing finger at the end of the task.

Talking exclusively to Daily Star and other press, Nick has now addressed the fan rumour that he was a secret aide planted in the house – as well as a potential ‘Strictly’ future for his famous dance moves.

Nick has made quite the impression on viewers since his arrival on The Apprentice, with his Theresa May inspired dance moves and humorous personality charming fans – leading viewers to dub him as ‘their favourite’ on social media.

However, many fans have also taken to social media to question whether he was a comedian or an undercover journalist who had been planted on the show – following his many memorable moments in the series such as being a train tour guide.

However, Nick has confirmed that he was not undercover on the programme, saying: “A friend did send them to me. I don’t know whether it is like a diss or a compliment, but I’m sort of going with the compliment.

“No, Lord Sugar does not have an aide he has planted in the house – I am a candidate – so I can nip that in the bud. I can confirm I’m a candidate.

“I don’t know where it comes from – hopefully it has come from a good place and people read it and go oh, that’s funny. I’m taking it as a bit of a compliment, but unfortunately no, the rumours are not true.”

He also revealed that he was surprised but touched by viewers reaction to his appearance on the programme, as he does not personally see himself as a funny person, adding: “It’s definitely a shock. I would never describe myself as a funny person.

“I remember in the application, you talk about yourself a bit and I said, I’m not that funny – but I’m quite fun. I’d normally describe myself as quite fun to be around if you’re out and about.

“It has actually been a massive compliment. People seem to have enjoyed watching, so that feels nice to know.”

However, with Nick becoming one of the fan favourites from the current season of The Apprentice, there is no doubting that many viewers will be left devastated by his firing from the boardroom in the latest episode.

The episode saw Nick and Akshay Thakrar take responsibility for the catering during their racing day event, including cooking the meals – but all did not go to plan.

After Stephanie and Kathryn ended their interactive museum tour early, the away day guests were left waiting for their food as Akshay and Nick were not expecting them to arrive so soon.

The duo also made the huge mistake of bringing in the pots of food through the wrong entrance and in full view of their waiting guests.

Despite this, Nick said he enjoyed every moment of the task and did not blame Steph for the unexpected early arrival of the clients, saying: “I don’t think Steph did that on purpose, I just think she didn’t know the tour well enough, so I think it was unintentional from her.”

He added: “The Silverstone task – so much fun. I loved it. I had a lot of fun during the process – the logo for task one, the Cornwall tour, there have been a couple of highlights.”

However looking back on the challenge, Nick explained that he thought a change in the team building exercise could have won them the task, saying: “I wish in hindsight that when Steph had told us how much she had made from the tickets.

“You know when we did that team building thing, the mini car racing? That cost us around £500 and I wish I would have said, look, lets just not bother spending that money and put our own team building up.

“I reckon I could have done a pretty good team building exercise myself and we might have been able to win the task.”

The team were also asked for over 20 per cent of the money back as a refund – leaving them with just a £1209.70 profit compared to the winning team’s total of £1926.00.

All four of the team members were later brought back into the boardroom in a shock decision by Lord Sugar, with Stephanie and Kathryn told that by Tim Campbell that neither of them listened to their client in the initial meeting.

Lord Sugar also asked Stephanie and Kathryn whether they thought Nick and Akshay were a “pair of Grand Pr***s”, before choosing to fire Nick, telling him: “I’m not sure what you have given me in the past eight weeks. I waited for you to get off the starting line, but regretfully the chequered flag has been waved.”

Despite Lord Sugar’s comments and his subsequential firing, Nick said he was not surprised that he was fired – and that his respect for Lord Sugar grew within the boardroom.

“I was on pretty thin ice after the pod task. I knew as we’d lost the task at Silverstone, I was in huge trouble,” said Nick.

“I then obviously had the lunch situation go down, where we were having a bit too much fun in there, me and Akshay, and lost track of time.

“I was leading that, so I thought I was going to in a bit of trouble in that boardroom. Anything can happen there though. I didn’t know for sure I was going, but I had a bit of an idea.”

He added: “We don’t actually really work with Lord Sugar or his aides, but what I would say is that spending time with Lord Sugar in the boardroom, my respect for him definitely went up.

“He’s a lot quicker on his feet, he’s a lot funnier. His business sense is a lot greater than I expected. I was honestly very, very impressed with him.”

Looking back on his experience during the The Apprentice, Nick also explained that what viewers see in the programme is what takes place, adding: “That is one thing I will honestly say. I’ve been really impressed with the story line that gets shown. Genuinely what gets shown happens.

Some things do get ommitted, but you’ve got three days of editing so you can’t squeeze it all in, but the story line is dead on – and also the way people come across. Very, very accurate.

“What you see of me is me. That all was how it was. I’m surprised the reaction that people have had to it I guess.”

Nick revealed that he would ‘never say never’ to appearing on Strictly Come Dancing

However as he steps into the black cab to go home, what can we expect from Nick next? The star has teased that he would ‘never say never’ to showing off his famous moves on Strictly Come Dancing again.

“The thing is, I didn’t go on that process for that sort of career path,” said Nick.

“Never say never, but that is not what my aim was. My aim was obviously to gain investment for my own business, which unfortunately didn’t happen – but I do have the moves. If I ever get a call up, who knows?”
