Corrie newcomer Jon Spear 'lovebombing' Emma as fans spot major red flag

Coronation Street’s Emma Brooker was left devastated this week as she was forced to dump her boyfriend Jon Spear – but fans reckon they have already twigged his sinister motive.

The newcomer met Emma at his grandfather Ted’s funeral – unaware that she and pal Faye Windass were behind his accidental death after they ran him down in their car.

Romance between the pair blossomed quickly, with Emma lying about the truth behind Ted’s death. And recently, viewers saw him whisk her off on an indoor skydiving adventure after spending the night – and day – at a swanky hotel.

But Emma attempted to wiggle her way out of the activities, insisting that she had to get back in time for her shift at the pub and return to her friends – before finally giving in.

She has been spending more and more time with Jon recently, and lying to Faye and Craig about her whereabouts.

Could Jon be up to something?

With Emma actress Alexandra Mardell soon set to exit the soap, some fans are worried that she could go off to Australia with Jon, which would allow him to further his grasp on her.

Segregating her from her friends and family could be the next step in a sinister storyline.

Taking to social media to air their theories, one fan said: “I thought Jon was sweet at first but last night he was too full on. I think the word is ‘lovebombing’.”

Emma could be in trouble

Someone else couldn’t believe Jon and Emma had moved so quickly, as they echoed: “They’ve only been together a few weeks ‘n Jon, wants Emma, to move in with him, IN ANOTHER COUNTRY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD! I don’t know, eh…”

“No happy ending for them,” another fan said.

A fourth tweeted: “Emma really doesn’t waste much time clearly, literally 5 minutes ago she was totally in love with serial liar Curtis even going so far as to almost marry him now suddenly she’s hopeless in love with Jon.”

The pair have been getting closer

And a return to the soap could be on the cards for Alexandra in future, as she teased to Daily Star: “I’m so pleased [that Emma isn’t being killed off]. I’m really, really pleased.

“I think even saying goodbye was hard enough, but that little hope of maybe one day there’s a possibility I could go back kind of keeps you going. It’s not goodbye forever, you never know. I’m really glad that she wasn’t killed off.”

But could the soap revisit her after Jon’s claws have sunk firmly in?

Viewers will have to wait to find out.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV.
