Loose Woman Denise Welch has revealed that she feared being burnt alive when an angry stalker set fire to her house.
The 63-year-old TV personality was worried she would perish in a fiery grave during the “terrifying” incident at their £1million home in Wilmslow, Cheshire September 2021.
Toraq Wyngard pleaded guilty to stalking, possessing a knife, criminal damage and arson at a trial at Chester Crown Court earlier this month.
He was sentenced to seven years and seven months after admitting to a number of charges.
Now, the former Celebrity Big Brother housemate has recalled the moment she saw “huge sprawling flames outside the house” in September 2020, with Toraq arrested nearby. Officers found a kitchen knife in his rucksack.
Denise told The Sun: “I remember that we’d been to the pub that night for dinner, and I’d gone to bed early, at about 10pm, leaving Lincoln with his son, Lewis, and my brother-in-law Duncan, downstairs watching a boys’ film, volume turned up full blast as boys tend to do.
“Suddenly, I heard Lincoln screaming. I ran downstairs in my pyjamas and saw huge sprawling flames outside the house, a lady had seen the fire outside as she was driving past and knocked on the front door to alert us.”
The daytime TV legend even admitted she “doesn’t know if I would be here today” if neighbours hadn’t alerted her to the inferno, a possibility which “doesn’t bear thinking about”.
Reflecting on what could have happened in the terrible incident, she said: “Within seconds of him moving it, flames started spreading rapidly, they would have caught my car and the whole thing would have gone up and exploded.”
The she then recalled watching “everything melt” as the fire started to engulf the garage attached to their house, resulting in £4,285 worth of damage.
An emotional Denise told the court: “This whole experience terrified me and continues to do so.”
