Footage of Alec Baldwin rehearsing with gun before fatal shooting on Rust set shared

Police have now shared footage taken moments after Alec Baldwin accidentally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins while on the set of his latest film Rust.

Local law enforcement have also shared snaps taken at the scene with Hutchins receiving urgent medical care from paramedics after being fatally shot while director Joel Souza was also injured on October 21, 2021.

Hutchins died later that day during a flight to the University of New Mexico hospital in Alburquerque.

During filming Baldwin fired a Pietta .45 Colt revolver that was used as a prop but claims he did not pull the trigger and was not aware of how a live bullet was on the set.

In footage shared by police, paramedics can be seen racing to the scene to offer vital support to Hutchins following the incident.

More clips show Alec dressed as a cowboy on the set and practising with what could be the gun that killed the cinematographer.

Footage also shows the director speaking to police while in hospital, with the director explaining he heard a “very loud bang” and “being kicked in the shoulder”.

He explained: “I was down on my ass and I look over and see the cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with blood coming out of her back.”

Souza also claimed that director Hannah Gutierrez Reed had told Alec the weapon was “cold” or “clean” – meaning that it had no live rounds in it.

While being quizzed by police, Alec stopped the interview to answer his phone.

He has previously said that the accidental shooting was the worst thing that had ever happened to him, explaining: “I think back and I think of ‘what could I have done?'”

In a statement, Sheriff Mendoza who is investigating the incident said their investigation “remains open and ongoing”.

Mendoza went on to say that investigation into firearms forensics, fingerprint analysis, an analysis of Alec’s phone and a medical examiner report are ongoing.

“Once these investigative components are provided to the sheriff’s office we will be able to complete the investigation to forward it to the Santa Fe District Attorney for review,” he added.

The New York Times reported that police released the footage after “multiple requests” from media outlets and because the investigators wanted to show what was outstanding.

It comes just days after the production company was fined after it was found to have breached on-set safety laws after the death of Halyna.

Now a report into the incident found that the production company “knew that firearm safety procedures were not being followed on set and demonstrated plain indifference to employee safety”, according to PA.

The company has been given the maximum fine allowable by state law in New Mexico.

Rust Movie Productions has now been given a fine of $136,793 (£104,810).
