Simon Cowell has revealed that the late America’s Got Talent singer Nightbirde, whose 2021 performance went viral, will be given a special mention in this summer’s live shows.
The head judge and show boss is working out how the tribute will work following Jane Marczewski’s cancer death in February, aged just 31.
Asked about Nightbirde at the AGT Media launch in LA, Cowell confirmed plans are in place.
He said: “I think we should do something special on the live shows. The last time I saw her, she was very frail but at the same time she was very optimistic, talking to me about her music.
“When I heard the news, it was so unfair, she is actually such a nice person, so talented.
“She said to me, the great thing was, is that millions of people got to hear my music. And that was really a big thing for her. And then it was all taken away from her. Life’s unfair like that. “
Cowell also spoke of his pride at seeing former One Direction star turned solo megastar Harry Styles perform as a headliner at the Coachella Music Festival last weekend.
Cowell beamed with pride as he also reflected on Fifth Harmony star Camilla Cabello’s blossoming solo career.
“You know, it validates what we do because honestly, if things like that didn’t happen, I could never do a show, a talent show because it’d be like, what’s the point, you’ve got to believe.”
“There’s always what I call the diamonds that you find and you can at least help steer them in the right direction.”
“In the case of Harry and Camilla, we made the decision that they would be best to start their career in a group, which is a great way to understand how the business works and when you’re ready, you leave and go solo and hope for the best.”
“Thank God it worked out great, but I’m very proud of them.”
