Rebekah Vardy's agent 'confirms' she leaked Coleen Rooney car crash story

Rebekah Vardy’s agent appeared to confirm she had leaked stories about Coleen Rooney to the press in a string of texts.

The messages from Caroline Watt appeared to refer to details of an alleged car crash Ms Rooney had been passed to a journalist.

The jury at the “Wagatha Christie” court heard how an article published by The Sun claimed that Ms Rooney had crashed her Honda.

A string of text messages between Ms Vardy and Ms Watt were then presented to the court where Ms Watt appeared to admit leaking the information to the paper.

A viral Instagram post in 2019 saw Rooney accuse Vardy’s Instagram account of leaking “false stories” about her to the press.

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy’s wife has since made a libel claim against Ms Rooney, the wife of former England player Wayne Rooney.

Rooney’s barrister David Sherbourne raised an early 2019 article in The Sun to Ms Vardy about Ms Rooney being involved in a car crash.

Three days earlier Ms Rooney had posted a picture of the damage to her Honda on her private Instagram account.

Mr Sherbornethen read out an exchange of texts between Vardy and Watt where the agent claimed: “I would have tried to have done a story on Coleen but the evidence has been deleted.

“Halls is trying to do a story on Coleen crashing her car but her PR won’t even reply. I’ve told him I’m 100% confident that it happened but don’t know how.”

The messages appear to show Ms Watt admitting she was leaking information to a journalist

The court heard that “Halls” appeared to be a reference to The Sun journalist Andy Halls.

Ms Rooney later explained that she had not crashed her car at all, but instead, another car had gone into hers causing the damage.

A the time Rooney had sent a tweet saying it was “sad” that someone who followed her private account was “betraying her.”

Further messages from Ms Watt to Ms Vardy then appeared to mock Coleen as she bragged: “It wasn’t someone she trusted. It was me” with a laughing face emoji.

Mr Sherborne then asked Ms Vardy if she thought the message showed Ms Watt admitting to leaking information to Mr Halls.

She replied: “That seems to be what she is saying, but I’m just looking at the times, at 18:47 I’m bathing the children, there is no response from me.”

Ms Vardy then claimed that her next message changed the subject to Gemma Collins “faceplanting” on Dancing On Ice.

The court then heard how a series of messages between Ms Watt and The Sun journalist became unavailable to the court due to a “catalogue” of “unfortunate events.”

Ms Watt’s phone had fallen into the North Sea, with Mr Sherborne confirming that the exchange between her and Mr Halls was now “lying at the bottom of the sea in Davy Jones’ locker”.

Mrs Vardy replied: “Who is Davy Jones?”

Mrs Justice Steyn responded: “It means at the bottom of the sea.”

The prosecution claimed Vardy’s laptop being disposed of because it was “damaged beyond repair,” also led to more missing messages.

Mr Sherborne also asked Vardy what happened to messages exchanged between 15 October 2019 and 25 July 2020.

The TV personality said they may be missing due to her switching phones, but she did not know.
