Thor fans reckon Christian Bale's baddie Gorr looks like Marilyn Manson as trailer drops

For months Thor fans’ excitement has been building over the upcoming latest movie featuring everyone’s favourite hammer-swinging Norse god and Avenger.

In particular, they’ve been clamouring for footage of that film’s main bad guy – namely Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher – with many fearing that he won’t end up looking anything like he does in the comic books.

And now the new trailer’s finally dropped all those people seem to be saying the same thing – that he’s more goth than Gorr and the spitting image of US shock rocker Marilyn Manson.

The online promo from Marvel Studios, which landed earlier today, introduces Welsh-born Bale’s arch villain as a white-skinned character in robes who sports scars all over his face and has fearsome glowing yellow eyes.

But, while the movie’s celebrated director Taika Waititi is already calling Bale “probably the best villain Marvels’ ever had,” fans have been taking to Twitter to express their own opinions.

“Looks like Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher dipped into late ’90s Marilyn Manson videos,” posted one, while another added, “I, for one, am looking forward to Marilyn Manson making his debut as the newest Marvel villain.”

“Yo! Marilyn Manson is in this movie?” asked a third.

What everyone seems to agree on, however, is that that the 48-year-old looks suitably scary, with one fan tweeting, “Bale is actually f*****g terrifying as Gorr… like, holy s**t!”

There were even some online comparisons to Ralph Fiennes’ Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter films, to which the reptilian features of the original illustrated version of Gorr coincidentally bear more than a passing resemblance.

Nevertheless, it’s believed the film’s makers ultimately decided not to go with that comic book look because, as one critic put it, “What’s the point in getting a world class actor like Bale only to bury him under a load of prosthetics or CGI?”

Thor – Love and Thunder will be released in UK cinemas on July 8.
