Dick Van Dyke 'took leap of faith' when he married woman 46 years younger than him

Dick Van Dyke took a “leap of faith” when he married a woman 46 years younger than him following his first wife’s passing in 2008.

The 96-year-old actor known for starring in the likes of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins got hitched for the first time in 1948 when he married Margie Willett.

American TV and film star Dick and his wife Margie enjoyed a marriage that spanned almost four decades until they separated in 1984.

One year prior to his first wife’s passing, however, Dick met Arlene Silver in 2007, and the pair became close pals before getting wed years later.

With Arlene, who is now aged 50, by his side throughout the sad passing of Margie, their friendship blossomed into something more and they tied the knot in 2012.

Speaking to Closer Weekly, Dick spoke of his romance with Arlene where he opened up about their sweet bond.

He told the publication: “She’s delightful, a great cook, and a woman of great patience. She’s given me a third life, and I’m tickled to death with it”.

He addressed claims of “gold-digging” in his interview when he said: “I thought there would be an outcry about a gold digger marrying an old man, but no one ever took that attitude.”
