Strictly's Kym Marsh 'struggled to contain emotions' over heartbreaking dance

Kym Marsh left Strictly Come Dancing viewers in tears after sharing an emotional tribute to her late son Archie.

The TV star dedicated her performance, which was an American smooth to Chasing Cars, to her son Archie, who was born 18 weeks early in 2009 and sadly died.

Before doing the dance she said it was in memory of her son and hoped it would get people talking about their experiences to help get on the “right road to putting your life back together”.

Speaking to Daily Star, body language expert Inbaal Honigman has recognised just how hard the dance routine was for Kym and how raw the memories are for the star.

She said: “Kym danced in memory of her dear baby boy who passed away soon after birth, and as Claudia starts chatting to her, Kym is rubbing her tummy discreetly, remembering perhaps the months of Archie growing in her tummy.

“She taps her lower stomach, comforting herself, and comforting her baby that lives on in her memory.”

Inbaal explained how Kym lowering her eyes when talking signifies that she’s still holding sadness.

She added: “As Kym turns to Graziano to thank him, she taps her hand on his chest in a show of closeness and trust. The dance meant so much to her, and she’s thankful to Graziano for his presence.”

Kym had the extra support from Graziano who told her how well she did which, Inbaal says, makes her feel “less alone” in her bereavement, prompting her voice to crack and tears to start.

When Kym was given a compliment by Graziano her “emotions become too much for her and she cries”, and she then tried to hold it in to “stop further emotion escaping out”, after Claudia’s compliment.

After Kym’s dance the judges praised her “fragility and vulnerability” but recognised that she made a mistake halfway through.

But despite the mistake Kym was awarded 31 points out of 40, landing her a rather solid spot on the leader board.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Results Show returns at 7:20pm on BBC One.
