The actor, who famously played Dr Derek Shepherd on on the show, was Ellen’s co-star and love interest until he left the show in series 13 to focus on other projects.

Ellen, who plays leading character Meredith Grey, stayed up until Season 19, where it was revealed she would only be taking part in eight episodes.
The finale – which is set to air in the UK on Disney+ in a matter of weeks – will see Meredith’s exit from the series, with the star confirming the news herself on Instagram.
Following Ellen’s confirmation, the news was shared with Patrick on Jimmy Kimmel Live! as he was asked what he thought of her leaving the show.
Patrick joked: “Did she really? [leave] Finally, they caught her. Can you imagine what she’d have in her house now from 19 seasons? A full hospital.”
Patrick and Ellen worked together for years on the show and ultimately brought in millions of viewers thanks to their unmatched chemistry.
Only two original characters remain, with Dr Miranda Bailey [Chandra Wilson] and Dr Richard Webber [James Pickens Jr], still on the show.
Ellen has vowed that she will continue returning to the show on occasion, but will no longer be a series regular as she issued a statement to her 9.8million Instagram followers.
She told her fans that none of her success would have been possible without the viewers as she said they “made the ride so fun and iconic”.
Ellen wrote: “I love you madly and appreciate you right back. This isn’t your first time on the rollercoaster…
“You know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit. With a lot of love and immense gratitude.”
The show has come under fire in recent years after most of its original cast left – but bosses have vowed that the new series will bring about a “new era” of the US drama.
Fans can watch the new series of Grey’s Anatomy on Disney+.
