Hollywood’s Diane McBain has sadly died at the age of 81 after her battle with liver cancer.
The actress who starred alongside music icon Elvis Presley in the 1966 blockbuster Spitout died on Wednesday (December 21).
She died at the Motion Picture & Television Country House Hospital in Woodland Hills in, California, and the announcement was made by her confidante Michael Gregg Michaud.
Michael said in a social media announcement: “It is with great sadness that I report actress Diane McBain lost her battle with liver cancer and passed away on December 21, 2022.”
“She lived a full life and experienced every opportunity that presented itself, her confidente Michaud reportedly said
“She was very kind, thoughtful, loyal and generous, and she had a wicked sense of humour. Despite her remarkable professional accomplishments, she was the most un-affected movie star I have ever known.”
Her most notorious film role came in Spinout, in which she portrayed the role of author Diana St. Clair, starring alongside Elvis Presley, who played a singer-race car driver named Mike McCoy.
Before embarking on a career in Hollywood, Diane found success after appearing as a model before accepting a seven-year deal with Warner Bros, aged 18 in 1959.
Diane kickstarted her acting career in 1969 after appearing on the ABC series Maverick, working alongside James Garner.
In 1960, she began playing the role of Daphne Dutton on the ABC crime series Surfside 6 – she starred in 45 episodes, working alongside Troy Donahue and Van Williams.
Diane also appeared in the 1961 movie Parrish with Troy on nine episodes of 77 Sunset Strip from 1959-1963.
Extending her acting resume, the actress also appeared in four episodes of the Batman series in 1966 and 1967.
The actress was also an author and, in recent years, authored 2020’s The Laughing Bear and 2021’s The Color of Hope.
She took on a second career as a counsellor for sex assault survivors after she spoke about being sexually assaulted by two men in West Hollywood on Christmas day of 1982.
Son Evan Burke and goddaughter Mary Haber survive Diane.
