The Today Show was left in chaos today (February 28) as one host was forced to abandon the set amid a worrying health update.
Savannah Guthrie, 51, began her work on the NBC morning programme at 7am Eastern Time, but after an ad break just 30 minutes later, she was absent from her post.
Worryingly, her co-host Sheinelle Jones – who was filling in for another absent co-star, Hoda Kotb – gave a health update on the missing presenter.

Sheinelle explained to viewers just before 9am ET: “It has been an interesting morning for us. As we said, Savannah left early. She wasn’t feeling great, so she took a Covid test, and it came back positive.”
She added that the host had “rushed home to rest up” and delivered a sweet parting message as she continued: “So, Savannah, we love you. Wishing you a speedy recovery.”
Savannah has contracted the virus twice before, in January and May 2022 – this marks her third battle with the bug.
The Today Show was left in chaos with the sudden absence, with fans turning to Twitter to share their own thoughts on the matter.
One penned: “Did you see Hoda out and now Savannah Guthrie tested positive on set. Outbreak at Today Show!”
Another wondered: “So what gives on the Today Show? First Hoda has been missing for over a week, and then today Savannah starts the show and then mysteriously disappears within the first hour.”
“7:30 and Savannah had to ‘leave early’? Al sits in till Willie can get there. Hoda has been MIA with no explanation. Something’s happening at Today Show,” a third echoed.
The show is now missing its two main anchors, with it left in the air who will replace Savannah while she recovers.
Hoda, meanwhile, hasn’t addressed the reason for her own lengthy absence, with fans growing increasingly worried by the inspirational quotes she posts to her Instagram.

Commenting on Hoda’s most recent snaps, one fan begged: “Ok. Seriously… what is going on with you? I know you have a right to privacy, but your truest fans have noticed your absence and these posts… worried about you.”
Another echoed: “Praying you are okay. It just seems that the past few weeks on air you have seemed off, stressed I guess is a better word.”
As someone else agreed: “Hoda you are so missed! I love seeing your smile in the morning.”
