Strictly's Anton and Giovanni told they're 'second best' in Saturday Kitchen sly dig

Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebutt made a cheeky dig at Strictly Come Dancing stars Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice on the BBC programme on Saturday (March 25).

The dancing icons were special guests on the weekend cooking programme, where they spoke about their new travel programme Anton and Giovanni’s Adventures in Sicily.

However when they were introduced by host Matt Tebutt, alongside wine expert Ollie Smith, the Saturday Kitchen presenter jokingly said that Anton and Giovanni have “the second best bromance on TV”.

“We’ve got a rollercoaster ride of show with this lot in the studio. Literally anything could happen, because this is Saturday Kitchen Live,” said Matt.

He continued: “Our special guests today have delivered some of the most memorable Strictly moments ever, but they’ve swapped the ballroom for Sicily, in the second best bromance on TV – please welcome Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice.”

Following cheers from the audience, Anton and Giovanni could be heard jokingly asking, “Second best?”

Matt Tebutt replied: “Second best my friends,” as he tapped Ollie’s chest, with Ollie adding: “What defines a bromance though, that’s the question?”

The jokes continued as Giovanni then pointed towards Matt and Ollie and asked: “Is this the first one,” to which both TV personalities replied: “Yeah, yeah, yeah.”

However, Anton then cheekily pointed out to Matt and Ollie: “You can’t be the second best unless you have seen them in their budgie smugglers.”

Matt then pointed towards the Strictly pairing, saying: “Which we have.”

Anton then admitted: “We spend a lot of time together in Speedos.”

The two stars discussed Anton and Giovanni’s Adventures in Sicily, which was first broadcast on March 21, as part of the cooking show, with Anton promising plenty of fun in store for viewers as he gushed about co-star Giovanni.

“The show is about our relationship, which is the thing that came across for me.

“I watched the first show the other evening with Hannah, and I got a warm feeling about it. It was a lovely sort of show of us together,” said Anton.

“The shows grow over the next couple of weeks, but without giving any spoilers away, we have a lot of fun with it all,” he added.

Anton also spoke about spending time with Giovanni’s family, saying: “They are great people. It was one of the loveliest parts, being with your family.”

In reference to the earlier joke about Anton and Giovanni’s bromance in the programme, presenter Ollie also chimed in: “It is a bromance. It’s a real deal, excellent bromance.”

Giovanni replied: “There’s a lot of love,” with Anton agreeing: “There’s a lot of love. I absolutely love him to death.”
