Real Housewives star warns Meghan Markle 'stop' with TV as she says 'you don't need it'

One star of Real Housewives of Toronto has warned Meghan Markle to “stop” with her forays into reality TV as she “doesn’t need it”.

The Duchess of Sussex launched a Netflix docuseries last year alongside her husband Prince Harry, which followed the couple through the trials and tribulations of their new life in Los Angeles.

Though Meghan stepped out of the acting limelight before marrying into the Royal Family – with her last major project being Suits – she has made sporadic appearances on US TV, including a bizarre skit with Ellen DeGeneres.

Since then, rumours have abounded that Meghan will further venture into the realm of reality TV.

And Kara Alloway, notorious ‘villain’ of RHOT, had a dire warning for the Duchess if she decides to go down that route.

Real Housewives star Kara Alloway has a dire warning for Meghan Markle

“Stop. Full stop. Meghan, no! You don’t need this, and you don’t want to do it!” Kara pleaded with the Duchess during an exclusive chat with Daily Star.

“I have worked in front of and behind the camera. And reality television, if you’re someone who wants to create art? It’s art. But [viewers] get to sit in the big judgement chair and it feels good. You get to judge.”

Kara went on: “My theory as to the reason why it’s so popular is twofold. Number one: you get to see people doing behaviour that actually you maybe wanted to do, like, ‘I want to throw a glass of water in that woman’s face!’ but someone else did it, so you say, ‘She shouldn’t have done that!’

“The other thing is, for young people to look at these old ladies in their 50s carrying on, it lets you know that after you settle down or have kids, it’s not necessarily over. You can still have craziness in your life.

“So then that brings us to why would Meghan Markle want to do this? Don’t do it! You don’t need it! Do scripted [shows] instead!”

Kara thinks Meghan should heed her own advice when it comes to the drama of TV.

“There was an interview once with Meghan when she was in Africa. She said, ‘The worst thing you can do for a person is silence them or not give them a chance to tell their story’.”

And Kara says she was not given the chance to tell her own story – but was just made out to be the bad guy.

Kara says there are two reasons why people do reality TV – with viewers judging from the sidelines

In one Real Housewives scene, she says producers made out as though she’d purposely excluded a plus-size woman from her fashion sale – when in fact the opposite was true.

“Think of reality TV as an improv scene. You have a talent producer who says, ‘Kara, you’re going to go have dinner with Stephanie today’.

“You show up to this restaurant and the camera crews are there, you’re getting mic’ed up and you have this huge adrenaline rush.

“You’re not allowed to talk before, they keep you apart like at a boxing match. Then the producer says something like, ‘Don’t worry about the things she was saying about you to the other ladies’. And off you go!

Kara was not given the chance to tell her own story – but now she’s releasing a novel about her experiences

“You’re like, ‘What was she saying about me?’ It’s like emotional gladiator warfare.”

Now she’s turned her experiences into something positive – and has written her debut novel, Most Hated.

“We have six women,” she explained of the summary, “who are involved in a reality television show.

“That’s the backdrop for all of the things that play out. I got to peel back the curtain a little so readers can say, ‘Wow, does that actually happen on reality TV?'”

Kara wanted to focus on platonic relationships between female characters in her novel, set amidst the dramas and fallouts of a reality show.

Kara’s novel Most Hated is available to pre-order now.
