Disney star Alyson Stoner has revealed that they were fired from a children’s TV show after coming out as queer.
Stoner also claimed that they were branded “unsafe” to be around kids.
29-year-old Alyson uses they/them pronouns and came out as queer back in 2018, which the actor called a “nerve-wracking” moment.

However, to make matters worse, Alyson received backlash from their brave announcement and lost their job on set.
Alyson opened up about the experience during a guest appearance on the podcast I’m Literally Screaming with Spencewuah.
Stoner said: “I did end up getting fired from a children’s show because they felt that I was unsafe, now that they knew I was queer, to be around kids. So there was definitely some discrimination there, but the beauty far outweighs the hate comments and death threats.”
Alyson never named the kid’s show they were fired from.
Disney fans will know Alyson from classic projects such as Camp Rock, The Suite Life of Zac and Cody and Phineas and Ferb.
Stoner also spoke about the experience leading up to their big announcement while on the podcast.
The Disney star explained: “It was really nerve-wracking and the reason I ended up doing it was because my girlfriend at the time, we reached a point in our relationship where it felt like it was a disservice to her for her to be hidden.”
Stoner admitted that there were “other pressures and considerations to be public,” but that they “wanted to do this” themselves.
Before they decided to come out publicly, Alyson spoke to fellow Disney stars The Jonas Brothers’ father.
Stoner sought advice from Kevin Jonas Senior and although he was “loving,” others members of the Disney team were not as accepting.
The Camp Rock star revealed: “[Kevin Senior] was supportive and helpful in me understanding that there are risks if I do this [and] it’s totally my choice, but it could affect not only people’s perceptions but hireability for jobs.”
Stoner has previously admitted that their faith was a large factor in why they kept their sexuality private for so long as they “prayed in turmoil nightly, begging to be healed from these desires”.
