Rylan Clark admits he was ‘devastated’ not to return to Big Brother after ‘expecting’ it

Rylan Clark admitted he was “devastated” not be included in the new series of Big Brother.

The iconic social experiment is making a huge comeback on ITV after five years away from TV screens. However, despite being one of the biggest advocates for the series to make a return, Rylan admitted his heartbreak at not being asked back.

The TV presenter won the celebrity edition of the series in 2013 after competing in The X Factor, since then he married a former housemate and also got his first presenting gig with the franchise when he started to present Big Brother’s Bit On The Side on Channel 5 in 2013.

Rylan, 34, was welcomed onto Tuesday’s edition of Loose Women (September 26) by Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan, Brenda Edwards and Janet Street-Porter. But when pressed by his “TV mum” Ruth about the return of the series, he couldn’t help but reveal his fear of missing out.

Making his thoughts known about the reboot on the ITV Daytime panel show, he explained: “Big Brother was a massive part of my life like, you know, it’s my favourite thing in the world to do. And yeah, for the past five years since it’s been off I’ve been very vocal saying it should come back. In my eyes and still is, the best reality show out there, the real reality show.

“I didn’t know what was going on with Big Brother and I said very much, you know, I hope I’m a part of it. And I suppose naively and stupidly to a point, I’d been there for six, nearly seven, years.” He then addressed Ruth directly as he stated: “I mean, you’ve been to my house. I’ve got a diary room built in my house. I love the show so much. And I just sillily presumed that I’d be asked back.”

However he knew that things would be different as his partner in crime Emma Willis stated that she was going to hand over the baton to another host. “I knew Emma wasn’t going back, obviously Emma’s a good friend of mine,” Rylan stated.

He continued: “And I wasn’t, it didn’t transpire to be. I could be one of those people now that sits there and goes ‘no it’s what I wanted and this is…’ it wasn’t what I wanted, I would have gone back to Big Brother in a heartbeat. And it was quite difficult actually, because I didn’t find out until near on when everyone else found out which I was quite upset about.”

However, Rylan admitted that he is still a huge fan of the show and he wishes the entire production team nothing but the best as he stated: “But I genuinely hand on heart wish everyone well, because I’ve wanted that show to come back for a long time.

Although he admitted that despite the warm feeling, he is still heartbroken to not be returning to the series as he admitted: “But from a personal point of view I was utterly devastated. Because, I mean I married a housemate, divorced a housemate, it’s all gone on and it was very much a big part of my life.”

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV. Big Brother launches October 8 on ITV
