Corrie’s Jenny ‘to leave soap’ as character set for ‘fresh start’ after cobbles heartache

Coronation Street star Jenny Connor could be taking a break from the cobbles after a rather dramatic year, according to AI.

The character, played by Sally Ann Matthews, has been a firm favourite with viewers since walking onto the cobbles back in 1986. Sally remained on the soap until 1991, and then made a brief return in 1993. She returned in 2015 and has been on the soap since.

And it’s fair to say Jenny has been involved in several big storylines including an underage romance and the abduction of Kevin Webster’s child. Over in Weatherfield at the moment, Jenny has had a rough few years. Her hubby Johnny tragically died in 2021, and then her new beau Leo Thompkins was murdered by Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce).

And to make things even worse for the character, her beloved pub, The Rovers Return was then shut down – leaving landlady Jenny and fans of the show, gutted. She has also recently struck up a relationship with serial killer Stephen which only ended in disastrous results.

Corrie icon Jenny could be leaving the soap, AI has claimed

With all the drama going on in Jenny’s life at the moment, it’s now been claimed the character could be walking away from Weatherfield. Daily Star has quizzed one of the world’s most popular artificially intelligent “creative” tools Bard AI to see if Jenny could be leaving Weatherfield.

The program responded that she could indeed leave the soap. It explained: “She has been through a lot in recent years, and she may feel that she needs a fresh start.”

Bard AI added: “Jenny’s relationship with Leo Thompkins ended in tragedy when he was murdered by Stephen Reid. She is still struggling to come to terms with his death, and she may feel that she needs to get away from Weatherfield to move on.”

The system also noted how the Rovers shutting down might affect her decision to say goodbye. It said: “The closure of the Rovers is also a major blow for Jenny.

“It has been her home and her business for many years, and it is a place where she has made many memories. Without the Rovers, she may feel that she has no reason to stay in Weatherfield.”

However, Bard AI then said that Jenny remaining on the show is a possibility. It explained: “Of course, Jenny is a strong and resilient character, and she may decide to stay in Weatherfield and rebuild her life. But it is also possible that she will decide that it is time to move on.”
