Coronation Street killer Stephen Reid may have been killed off but he’s still causing chaos in Weatherfield.
In upcoming scenes of the ITV soap set to air next week, David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) suggests to Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) she should throw her late son Stephen’s diary in the bin as she’ll find it upsetting but she won’t hear of it, adamant that he wasn’t all bad.
Elsewhere, Jenny Connor’s (Sally Ann Matthews) excited over Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) and Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) buying the currently closed down Rovers Return is cut short when Shona Platt (Julia Houlding) points out she will have to take orders from her. Jenny later logs onto her ex Stephen’s laptop looking for her list of suppliers.

While doing so, she finds the last file that Stephen edited on the day that he died, titled Infinity Seagull Ventures. Believing this requires further investigation, Jenny and Carla Connor (Alison King) visit the police station to flag up the file. They hope that it could help to track down the money that Stephen stole from the factory in his final hours.
DS Swain (Victoria Myers) dismisses this, insisting that the force doesn’t have the resources to spend time cracking the password on the file. Meanwhile, a grieving Audrey refuses to bin the rest of Stephen’s things but as David studies Stephen’s journal he’s taken aback to discover that Gail Platt (Helen Worth) was initially unsure who Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) father was. David later tells Sarah that Gail wasn’t sure who her dad was when she was born. How will Sarah react?

After the fallout, Gail tells the family that she’s sick of all the in-fighting, Audrey needs their support and she wants them all to meet at to sort things out. Fans are so far led to believe that Brian Tilsley (Christopher Quinten) is the father of Sarah and she later adopted by Martin Platt (Sean Wilson). Martin was the only father Sarah knew as she was two years old when Brian was stabbed to death.

Coronation Street’s producer Iain MacLeod previously teased that the reopening of the Rovers Return will centre around a mysterious criminal act. He told Digital Spy and other media last month: “[The Rovers is] not going to stay closed for that long. In fact, it reopens on New Year’s Eve, but the interesting thing is that the circumstances of it becoming open again are all tied up with Stephen’s legacy.
“Somebody will do something that is at best, naughty, at worst, slightly criminal to get their hands on the keys to the pub and reopen it. So it will reopen, but the reopening of it will be based on this slightly shaky foundation of a criminal act.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm
