Victoria Beckham to have special role in Mel B’s wedding as Spice Girl shares details

Victoria Beckham will play a special role in her Spice Girls bandmate Mel B’s wedding later this year.

Mel, known as Scary Spice in the pop superstars’ heyday, is engaged to Rory McPhee, whom she will marry at London’s prestigious St Paul’s Cathedral. The 48-year old was granted special permission to hold the big day there owing to the MBE she was awarded for services to charitable causes and vulnerable women in 2022.

Now, she has revealed that fashion icon Posh, 49, has been handed the duty of designing dresses for the big day for both Mel and the mother-of-the-bride. The singer previously confessed in September last year that she was keen for Victoria to be involved – and it appears she has duly delivered.

Mel told America’s Today with Hoda & Janna this week: “Victoria actually designed my dress and my mum’s dress. It’s such a beautiful honour to get.” She also revealed she is planning on three outfit changes on the day and is currently on the look out for two further ensembles.

Mel continued: “I don’t think it would be fair to just have one. Just have as many as you want – at least three, right? I’m going to really go for it – one to actually get married in, which is the proper ceremony – very proper at this church, St Paul’s, and then maybe I want to change out of that and be a bit more less… You know, I actually don’t know!”

Rory, who owns his own hair salon, is said to have popped the question in October with a £100K diamond ring after three years of dating. Mel reportedly said “yes” instantly and burst into tears. A source explained to the Daily Star at the time: “It has taken a huge amount for a man to get her to trust him and to believe in love again.”

They added that Rory had helped Mel “repair the damage done” by her 10-year domestic abuse ordeal. Mel divorced Stephen Belafonte (real name Stansbury) in 2018 after enduring a “reign of terror” for a decade throughout the marriage.

The singer told in her book how she was isolated from her family and her ex-husband’s behaviour made her lose her self-esteem. Things reached breaking point around the time she was a judge on The X Factor in 2014.

Last year Mel said she still wakes up in the night “drenched in shame, sweat and fear” over Belafonte’s behaviour – abuse which he vehemently denies. “Nearly five years on I still wake up in the early hours with terrifying fragments of sounds and images flitting into my brain,” she admitted.

“Things I’ve tried to block float to the surface – things that can still make me feel drenched in shame, sweat and fear.” She went on to add that her ex made her feel that she wouldn’t be believed, stating “that I had no proof, and that because drink, drugs and sex were all part of our relationship, I would be tarnished goods for life”.
