A heart-wrenching drama that is available to watch on BBC iPlayer now has a 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating – higher than the likes of Succession and Game Of Thrones.
The drama, which features Emmerdale icon Lisa Riley and UK acting legend Maxine Peake, is based on the real life story of the Rochdale child sex abuse ring. Three Girls first aired in May 2017 and its devastating subject matter seemed to resonate with viewers.
So much so, that it has 100% on the “Tomatometer” and an impressive 86% average audience score. It drew in a huge audience too at the time, with 8.24million for its debut episode.

The second episode dipped slightly to 7.88m viewers. However episode three, from the point of view of sexual health worker Sara Rowbotham, rose back to 8.19m.
If you’re not one of the millions who tuned in to watch it live, you’re in luck. The three-part drama is still available to stream on BBC iPlayer for “over a year”, according to the site.
The series follows 14-year-old Holly Winshaw (played by Molly Windsor), 16-year-old Amber Bowen (Ria Zmitrowicz) and her young sister Ruby (Liv Hill). It is a dramatisation of the harrowing case of the Rochdale child sex abuse ring.
It saw mainly white British girls targeted by British Pakistani men. Nine men were convicted of sex trafficking, while other charges included rape, trafficking girls for sex and conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child.
There were 47 victims identified during the police investigation. However the investigation had a few set backs.
Due to the men’s heritage, there was discussion that the allegations were originally not fully investigated due to the police’s fear of appearing racist. Sara Rowbotham, who worked as the Rochdale Crisis Intervention Team co-ordinator, tried to tell the police of “patterns of sexual abuse” more than 180 times between 2003 and 2014.
Her reports were ignored as she was told the witnesses were not reliable. Eventually, a first generation British-Pakistani man, Nazir Afzal, was appointed as chief prosecutor in the region for the CPS, and the original decision to drop the case was overturned.
The third episode in Three Girls is from Rowbotham’s point of view. Ace Bhatti portrayed Afzal.
