The Chase’s Darragh fumes ‘this isn’t how we want to win’ after star’s huge error

Darragh Ennis fumed after a contestant made a huge mistake on The Chase.

During Wednesday’s instalment (March 27) of the ITV programme, Bradley Walsh welcomed four new contestants who were hoping to win a cash prize. The four players were up against Darragh, who became a chaser in 2020.

The second person to take on The Menace was Romanda. The 43-year-old put on an impressive performance in the cash builder round, taking £6,000 to the table.

Darragh couldn’t tempt Romanda with the higher or lower sum as she stuck to the middle offer. During the nail-biting head-to-head, the quizzer was on top form as he quickly closed the gap.

When there was just one place on the board between the duo, they were asked: “What organisation did Martin Bell leave to stand as an independent MP in 1997?”

The options were BBC, NHS and TUC. Romanda struggled with which answer to pick as Bradley pushed her to choose an option.

The timer ran low as the former Corrie star insisted: “Need an answer. Now!” Romanda unfortunately ran out of time and was therefore unable to move forward on the board.

Bradley asked which option she would’ve picked, to which Romanda replied BBC. The business analyst was left kicking herself when BBC was revealed as the correct answer.

As Darragh moved to one spot behind, he said: “This is not how we ever want to win. Make you get an answer in, even if it’s just a guess.”

Unfortunately for Romanda, that mistake costed her the game as she was caught by the chaser. After she was knocked out, Darragh added: “There’s nothing that we want less than to get someone because they’ve run out of time.

“You knew that answer. You probably would’ve got through. You’re desperately unlucky.” Haydn was the first player to make it through to the final chase, but opted for the low offer and only brought £200 back with him.

After Romanda was booted out, Makyla took on Darragh with £5,000 at stake. She managed to make it through to the final chase, followed by Roger who took the team’s overall total to £9,200.

Darragh warned the team to speed up in the final chase, but they only answered 11 questions correctly. Despite executing three pushbacks, The Menace caught the team with 30 seconds left on the clock.
