Emmerdale fans are in for a treat as Arthur Thomas, played by Alfie Clarke, is set to make a dramatic return to the ITV soap next week.
After an abrupt exit that left viewers worried earlier this year, Arthur will be back in the village with some stern words for one resident.
Actor Alfie recently confirmed his return to Emmerdale after a brief hiatus, believed to be due to school exams. From next week, viewers will see Arthur back on screen, returning from Australia to reunite with his mother Laurel.
In upcoming episodes, Arthur’s sister Gabby Thomas is seen smitten with her new love interest Vinny Dingle. However, their romantic moment is interrupted when Arthur announces his return and immediately confronts his stepfather Jai Sharma, who has just split from Laurel.
Laurel and Jai are currently embroiled in a bitter divorce storyline after she ended their relationship due to his deceitful behaviour towards other villagers. Since then, Jai has turned against Laurel, attempting to ensure she gets nothing from him.
Upon his return, Arthur doesn’t hold back in expressing his thoughts about Jai’s treatment of his mother. He reveals the toll the divorce proceedings are taking on Laurel, especially following her recent heart attack, reports the Mirror. Jai is taken aback by Arthur’s assertiveness, but will he reconsider his actions?
Could we see a more ruthless side to Arthur following his return, leading to a showdown with Jai? Viewers of the hit ITV soap were scratching their heads earlier this year when Arthur seemingly vanished from the Dales. His whereabouts were later explained by Laurel, who said: “Arthur’s in Australia and there’s more than enough room in the inn.”
“Gabby, you and Thomas are family you’re always welcome. And, to be honest, I could do with another woman in the house.”
It’s thought Arthur might have been visiting his granddad Doug Potts, who hopped off to Australia back in 2020 for a new adventure. Alfie, the actor behind Arthur, hinted at his return to the show with a cheeky social media update, posting: “Good to be back @emmerdale #emmerdale #backtowork #soapopera #village.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
