Only Fools and Horses icon says ‘honest crook’ Del Boy should be a role model

Sir David Jason reckons Derek Trotter should be a role model to people today.

The Only Fools And Horses star has defended his famous Del Boy rogue character, who he says was simply a grafter trying to provide for his family.

Del Boy is famous for his dodgy deals and outlandish scams to make a few extra quid. But Sir David insists he is someone to look up to, because Del is an “honest crook” who always wanted to make sure his family was cared for.

“In one way he’s a bit of a wheeler dealer and getting anything cheapskate but he is paying his way.

“He’s an honest crook, if you like.”

Del Boy is infamous for his money-making schemes that varied from the petty to the downright outrageous.

In the 1992 Christmas special Mother Nature’s Son, Del bottles tap water and sells it as spring water. The move comes after conning a health food retailer into thinking he has a natural spring on his allotment.

And in 1990 episode The Sky’s the Limit, Del Boy brings Gatwick Airport to a standstill when he buys a stolen satellite dish from his builder pal Bronco.
