Lil Tay undergoes open-heart surgery as fans left confused a year after death hoax

Rap star Lil Tay has left fans confused after she was seen recovering from open-heart surgery.

Lil Tay, 17, first shot to fame as a controversial influencer, calling out anyone and everyone. However, it appears that behind the scenes, she has been struggling with her health as a harrowing video has been released of the star.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Lil Tay has been dealing with health issues as she was rushed to hospital for a mysterious illness. A post uploaded to her social media platforms confirmed that over the weekend, the viral star had to undergo open-heart surgery and was now recovering in hospital.

It comes just over a year after she claimed her father faked her death. The hoax was later timed so that Lil Tay’s newest track had been released at a similar time, leading many to believe the stunt was for publicity.

However, a representative for the rapper said that unlike the previous incident, “This isn’t a hoax.” The spokesperson added that the star’s hospitalisation was not connected to any other stunts that she had pulled before.

In the video, the star is seen laying in a hospital bed, wearing hospital gowns and resting, with a sick bag on one side of her and a teddy on the other. Uploaded to the star’s 5.2 million Instagram followers, she appeared to be calm as she was hooked up to various machines giving her oxygen to keep her awake.

Writing in the caption, a spokesperson for the star said: “We are overjoyed to share that Tay’s open-heart surgery was a great success! We are deeply thankful to her surgeon, cardiologist and the team who are the best in the world.”

The spokesperson went on to thank her supporters for the “love, prayers and positive energy” they had given the rapper as she battled with her secret illness. In the final lines of the message, the spokesperson said that she was now on the “road to recovery”.

Over the course of just 24 hours, the post earned well over 200k likes, with fans and listeners flocking to the page to check if the story was true. However, despite this, many fans said they were uncomfortable watching the clip as Tay had not given her consent on having the video be uploaded at all.

Some fans went on to apologise for their scepticism, saying that they did not believe her surgery was real and instead was another publicity stunt. But not all of the star’s fans were buying into the story, claiming that it had been another hoax.

One begrudged fan took to the comments section to fume: “I’m surprised she didn’t pull out a guitar from under the blanket and just start ripping.” Whilst a second user said: “Show us an open-heart surgery scar or it never happened.”

A third account also chimed in, penning: “To be honest, this doesn’t need to be on the internet after what happened last time.” It came just days after Tay was confirmed to be suffering from a “life-threatening heart tumour”.

Fans were then given updates on her condition before she was admitted to hospital on her X page, which has now gone private. However, posts to the account dating on September 11 reported that she had been given some “devastating news”, and thoughts and prayers were needed.
