One of the most famous stars of the Harry Potter film series is keen on a return in HBO’s TV reboot – but as a different character.
Gary Oldman, famed for his portrayal of Sirius Black in the Potter films, has expressed interest in joining the cast of the upcoming TV series. While he hasn’t been approached for HBO’s anticipated reboot, he’s got his sights set on a particular role.
Chatting with IndieWire, he confessed: “No one’s approached me…” and mused about the future casting, “I would bet my money that they will get a whole new cast of people. Maybe in a few years, I could do Dumbledore.”

Reflecting on his time in the magical franchise, Gary lamented the limited appearance of his character, saying: “I love Sirius. He wasn’t in it enough. He turned up and then he went through the veil.”
Over the weekend, the 66-year-old actor was in the spotlight as a nominee for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the Emmy Awards for his performance as Jackson Lamb in ‘Slow Horses’. The show, which snagged its first nod in three seasons, has also been recognised in the Outstanding Drama Series category.
Gary is thrilled with the success of the Apple TV+ series, noting: “It started off very much a show that was culturally very British. And it is, its humour. So I feel like it’s sort of the little show that could that it’s now reached a much wider audience.
“So to be recognized with nine nominations, it’s a great thing, you know. We started four and a half years ago or whatever at the very height of the pandemic, I can’t believe we shot the first season. In bubbles and being, you know, Covid tested every three days. And it’s amazing that we got through it basically, so we’re thrilled.”
