Davina McCall holds back tears as she makes ‘painful’ family admission

Davina McCall fought tears as she confessed to experiencing “loneliness” with her children growing up.

The presenter opened up on her TV show My Mum, Your Dad, which sees a group of older people looking for another shot at love after break ups or losing their partners. Mum-of-three Davina was chatting to some of the women on the show, when she admitted that feeling lonely was something she had to deal with too.

“Do you know what?” said the former Big Brother host, pausing as she seemed to be overcome with emotion. “I know you’ve spoken about loneliness and we’re all… we’re all struggling with that a little bit with kids going and things like that.”

“It’s really painful,” added the TV star. “But if you let someone know how you are, it’s connecting with someone on a deeper level.”

Davina, 56, has three children from her former marriage to Pet Rescue presenter Matthew Robertson, who she split from in 2017 after 17 years of marriage. They share grown up daughters Holly, 23, and Tilly, 21, and son Chester, who turned 18 this month.

The Masked Singer star, who is now in a relationship with celebrity hairstylist Michael Douglas, has previously discussed having an empty nest now her children are grown up.

She told Hello! magazine this year: “My aim has always been to give my children wings, so they’re confident enough to go and do whatever they want to do.

“Obviously the reality of that will be… quiet. I quite enjoy the chaos. But I’d much rather they went off confidently than clung on to my legs and never wanted to leave.”

Davina also shared that she liked the idea of “a second spring”, with new projects like various television shows and raising awareness of the menopause and issues surrounding it.

“I suppose it’s a way of trying to help us overcome the empty nest, to understand that letting go of something is the birth of something else,” said the presenter.
