I’m A Celeb ‘very hopeful’ for football legend who already rejected show twice

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! are reportedly in “advanced talks” with a football icon.

Just weeks before the show is due to start, The Mirror reported that Ally McCoist is being scouted for a stint in the jungle for the 2024 series. According to the publication, ITV bosses are “very hopeful” he will make it onto the show.

The Scottish football star turned down the show back in 2019 and 2022. An inside source is reportedly feeling positive that the sportsman will join this year’s lineup.

They said: “Ally has such a huge fan base thanks to his years of commentating and punditry, plus his long stint on A Question of Sport. He’d be great for the jungle – as his wife and kids have been telling him forever – so everyone is really hopeful that this will be the year.”

If the footballer does decide he’ll enter the jungle, McCoist will be joining N-Dubz icon Tulisa Contostavlos, strictly-come-dancing>Strictly Come Dancing’s Oti Mabuse and Coronation Street actor Alan Halsall.

Ally has admitted why he previously turned down the ITV show: “I’m not a fan of cockroaches,” but didn’t seem to be bothered by the other challenges.

“The bit where you jump out of the helicopter or plane at the start, I’d like to do that, but then the rest is downhill. You don’t really know until you’re there, but I actually think being in the coffin what the rats and snakes – from where I’m sitting right now – I don’t think that would bother me too much.”

According to the sportsman, his family are such big fans of the reality show that they couldn’t believe he turned down the opportunity. “The kids aren’t talking to me at all [at the time]. The younger ones would love it and the older ones would love it as well. They are going to school and they are getting it off their pals.”

Back in 2018 he joked that his wife wouldn’t “give a monkey’s” about eating spiders and earwigs,” but was more interested in “wanting a two stretch in that Versace hotel”.
